How to Verify Images with Palis
In a world flooded with digital content, knowing what’s real is a superpower. Palis makes verification accessible to everyone, not just forensic experts. Here is how you can verify any media file secured by Palis.
Step 1: Receive the Link or File
When someone shares a Palis-secured image with you, they will typically send a secure link or the file itself. If you have the file, you can upload it to our verification portal.
Step 2: Automatic Checks
Once the file is accessed, our system performs three critical checks instantly:
- Hash Match: We calculate the cryptographic hash of the file and compare it to the record on our tamper-evident ledger.
- Signature Verification: We verify the digital signature from the capturing device to ensure it hasn’t been modified since creation.
- Metadata Integrity: We confirm that the location and timestamp data are consistent with the encrypted proof.
Step 3: View the Certificate
If the file is authentic, you will see a green “Verified” badge along with a detailed certificate. This certificate includes:
- Capture Time: The exact moment the shutter was pressed.
- Location: GPS coordinates (if shared by the creator).
- Device ID: A unique identifier for the hardware used.
What if it fails?
If a single pixel has been changed, the verification will fail. You will see a red warning indicating that the file does not match the original record. This binary “pass/fail” result removes ambiguity and protects you from manipulated evidence.
